Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the public beta version of the new Haringey Council website (new.haringey.gov.uk) only. We have a separate statement for the current Haringey website (www.haringey.gov.uk).

This website is run by Haringey Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser functionality
  • zoom in up to 400% without horizontal scrolling
  • navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate the website using speech recognition software
  • interact fully with the website using a screen reader (including the recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

How accessible this website is

Most of the website should be accessible, however there are some issues we are working on.

Known issues with the website:

  • Cookie statement dialog does not display visible focus when zoomed to 400%
  • Colour contrast issues for visibly hidden fields in the footer and on visited links in sitewide alert banners
  • Some images missing alt text
  • Some tables are unresponsive when zoomed in at 300% or more
  • Maps on the Contact component fail colour contrast if cookies are declined and the user
    hovers over the element.

Haringey Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 (external link) AA standard, due to the following ‘the non-compliances’ listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Known issues:

  • WCAG 1.4.4 Resize text - Level AA and WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow - Level AA
    When text is resized (zoomed in at 400%), the cookies dialog does not display visible focus.
    When using a screen reader, the user is unable to keyboard navigate down or close the dialog.
  • WCAG 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast - Level AA and WCAG 1.4.3 Colour Contrast (Minimum) - Level AA
    Colour contrast errors in the footer for visibly hidden fields. There are also contrast errors within sitewide alert banners for links which change to the black font after selecting.
  • WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content Level A - Level A and WCAG 1.4.5 Images of text - Level AA
    Images across the site are missing alt text or are too limited.
  • WCAG 1.4.4 Resize text - Level AA, WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow - Level AA and WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships - Level A
    Some tables across the site are unresponsive when text is resized (zoomed in at 300% or more).
  • WCAG 1.4.3 Colour Contrast (Minimum) - Level AA and WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible - Level AA
    Maps on the Contact component fail colour contrast if cookies are declined and the user hovers over the element.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDF documents

Not all PDFs are created in an accessible way with clear structure, headings and links.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 (external link) if they’re not essential to providing our services. 

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards where possible.

We plan to fix the above issues according to the timescales shown below.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was first prepared on 13 July 2023.

Methodology

The statement was prepared following a manual and automated WCAG 2.1 accessibility audit of 60 pages on the beta section of the website using Google Chrome and Safari.

Review dates

This statement will be reviewed following full launch of the new website - expected October 2023.
