How much you'll get
The amount of Housing Benefit you get depends on:
- the amount of money the government thinks you need to meet your basic needs.
- other adults who live with you, see non-dependant deductions
- your savings, investments and property
- your income
- your rent
- if you are 24-34 and living alone
It can be complicated to work out how much you will get. We recommend using our online benefits calculator.
The benefits calculator will tell you all benefits you may be entitled to. If you're not sure if you are entitled, we advise you to make a claim anyway.
You can also use one of the free benefits calculators listed on the GOV.UK website.

If you rent privately, we will usually work out your Housing Benefit using the Local Housing Allowance.
