Hypnotism authorisation

Meaning of hypnotism, performance authorisation and tacit consent.

If you wish to show, demonstrate or perform a hypnotism act in public in Haringey, you must have authorisation from us. 

Meaning of hypnotism 

Hypnotism, as defined in the Hypnotism Act 1952 includes: 

  • hypnotism 
  • mesmerism 
  • any similar process which produces, or is intended to produce, any form of sleep or trance where the mind of the person becomes more open to suggestion.  

Performance authorisation 

You need to have our written consent for any public hypnotism: 

  • exhibition 
  • demonstration 
  • performance 

You must contact us via email at least 28 days before the day of your performance.

The premises where the hypnotism performance takes place must hold a premises licence or a club premises certificate. 

Tacit consent 

Tacit consent will not apply. This means you cannot go ahead with the performance unless you’ve heard from us.
