If you're experiencing or know about an emergency:
- dial 999 if it's life-threatening
- contact the emergency planning and resilience team
- contact us out of hours on 020 8489 0000
What to do
In an emergency:
- remain calm, think before acting, try to reassure others
- do not put yourself or others in danger
- follow advice from emergency services
- check for injuries, help yourself before you help others
- let your loved ones know if you are safe and well
- if you are not involved in the incident but think you are in danger, in most cases the advice is to go home, stay inside and follow the latest news for information
If you are evacuated
In an evacuation:
- follow advice from emergency services
- if you have time, turn off your appliances and lock your home or premises
- grab your emergency kit – see British Red Cross advice on how to prepare an emergency kit
- find somewhere else to stay until the emergency is over:
- stay with friends or family
- stay in a local bed and breakfast or hotel
- if you're homeless, see help with homelessness
