Dementia Friendly Haringey

Dementia Friendly Haringey aims to make Haringey a place where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported. Dementia-Friendly Haringey brings together people from across the council, health services, voluntary and community sector as well as local businesses and residents committed to making the borough a friendly and accessible place for people living with dementia and their carers.

Dementia-Friendly Haringey's priorities are to create a place where people with dementia and their carers will:

• be respected and experience a greater level of dementia awareness in the community
• have greater access to health and social care support services
• have access to a range of local social activities

How to sign up to Dementia Friendly Haringey

If you are a service or organisation interested in signing up to Dementia Friendly Haringey please contact DementiaFriendly@haringey.gov.uk.

A Dementia Friendly Haringey member works towards taking actions to improve their service and workplace to become more accessible for people with dementia. We ask you to commit to a minimum of 2 actions. This could be as simple as completing a dementia-friendly environmental checklist of your workplace or staff attending a dementia awareness session.

If you would like to make your service, group or organisation more dementia friendly, please take a look at the dementia-friendly businesses guide on the Alzheimer's Society website. The guide contains information about how dementia affects people’s experience of interacting with different organisations. It also provides tips, guidance and signposting to additional best practice resources and tools to help businesses become more dementia friendly. Some examples of dementia friendly include:

• completing a dementia-friendly environment audit, to understand what small changes can be made to your workplace to make it more accessible
• becoming a Dementia Friend and help more people to understand dementia, reducing the stigma surrounding the condition and ensuring awareness of dementia is available to everyone. To find out more, please visit the Dementia Friends website

Local groups and activities

We have also developed leaflets listing local groups and activities for people with dementia and carers of people with dementia.

Dementia Friendly Haringey events

We hold regular Dementia Friendly Haringey events to bring together services, groups, organisations and local residents. The events showcase local dementia services and activities in Haringey, and provide an opportunity to meet local organisations and learn about the services that they provide that aim at a more dementia-friendly community.
