Background
The Haringey Healthy Schools Programme aims to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people across the borough. It uses a whole-school approach and focuses on improving schools’ health-promoting environments, reducing health inequalities, and supporting pupils, staff and the wider community to develop healthy behaviours.
This scheme is sponsored by the Mayor of London as part of the London Healthy Schools Awards Programme. These awards recognise and celebrate those schools that are making a difference for their pupils and staff and guides and supports schools in working towards Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.
The programme focuses on key topics for children’s health and wellbeing, including:
- Healthy eating
- Physical activity
- Emotional health and wellbeing
- Management of asthma
- Relationships, Sex, and Health Education (RSHE) as part of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)
