Entry 3 Maths Non-Calculator Skills

Course Details

What is this course about?

This 5-week course is aimed at adults who wish to develop Maths computational skills and written methods at entry level without using a calculator. After successful completion of this course, you can progress to a Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 3 accredited course. On this non-accredited course, you will explore a range of interesting, real-life applications of maths. It will build your confidence in non-calculator maths and help orient you towards a Functional Skills qualification. The classes are based at Wood Green Library, but you will also be supported with online study either for additional home study or to study in the centre.

Are there any entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or over by the 31st of August 2024. You must complete an Initial Assessment which identifies Entry Level Maths needs. You will also need to have Entry 2 or above English language skills for maths problem solving tasks at this level.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

Yes. There will be an online or face to face interview with a tutor where you will complete short maths exercises and discuss if the course will meet your needs. If the course is not suitable, the tutor will advise you on a more suitable course to apply for.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in classroom sessions twice a week and you will be supported to access additional online practice. You will do exercises, group tasks and quizzes as set by your tutor.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course. At the end of the course, you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will decide individual learning goals with your tutor and see your progress over the term by keeping a folder of work and using the BKSB platform.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

You will be able to talk to your tutor in one-to-one meetings about your learning during tutorials. Your tutor will ask for your feedback as a group at different times during the session and in course reviews. You will be able to formally record your views on the course at the end by completing an evaluation form. You may also complete GLA & OFSTED surveys.

What course can I do next?

You will be encouraged to enrol onto an accredited Functional Skills Maths Entry 3 course or to a Building confidence in Maths course to further improve your Maths computational skills or to undertake paid or voluntary work.
