Essential Digital Skills Level 1

Course Details

What is this course about?

This 12 week online course supports the development of key digital skills. It covers 5 essential modules at Level 1: using devices, creating and editing digital media, using technology to communicate, buying and transacting online, and how to stay safe and secure when using technology.

Are there any entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or older by the 31st of August 2024. You will start by completing initial assessments in ICT and English. Your ICT assessment and English assessments should be above Entry 3.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

Yes. There will be an online or face to face interview with a tutor where you will review your assessments and discuss if the course will meet your needs. If the course is not suitable, the tutor will advise you on a more suitable course to apply for.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught through timetabled fact to face  tutorials in your digital classroom using MS Teams for Education. 

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will decide individual learning goals with your tutor and see your progress over the term by keeping a folder of work

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

You will be able to talk to your tutor in one to one meetings about your learning during tutorials. Your tutor will ask for your feedback as a group at different times during the sessions and in course reviews. You will be able to formally record your views on the course at the end by completing an evaluation form. You may also complete GLA & OFSTED surveys.

What course can I do next?

You may progress onto a Level 2 Certificate in Digital Skills for Work to focus on a particular work sector or use this course to help you study a subject area of choice.

Additional information

It is important for you to access every class in order to gain the support to achieve the qualification. If you are unable to attend a specific class please let your tutor know in advance. If you do not access your learning during the first week of the course or you miss 2 classes in a row you may lose your place on the course. You will need to install MS Teams for Education onto your device. You will be supported to do this before the start of the course.
