As the inciteful banners began to appear on an electricity junction box on White Hart Lane near to Rowland Hill Nursery and Children’s Centre, teaching staff duly reported the matter to Haringey Council and the police.

The council, nursery and police all worked together to try and catch the culprit and he was tracked down and reprimanded after the police identified him from footage filmed by a council-installed re-deployable CCTV camera.

Rowland Hill have since completed artwork along their perimeter fencing that celebrates the cultural diversity of their wider N17 community and the children that attend there.

Haringey Council Leader, Cllr Peray Ahmet said:

“I commend the remarkable efforts of our teams at Haringey Council along with partners at Rowland Hill Nursery and Children’s Centre and the police in responding promptly and collaboratively to combat this heinous crime.

“This robust partnership approach serves as a testament to our dedication in fostering an environment where hate crimes are not merely brushed aside, but actively addressed, reported and handled with the utmost seriousness.

“Looking ahead, we will continue to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our residents, with a focus on fostering unity and a sense of belonging. This case study serves as a shining example of our ongoing commitment to creating an environment where in Haringey, everyone is welcome.

“Our diversity, without a doubt, is our greatest strength, and it enriches the lives of all those who live, learn and work here. That’s precisely why addressing hate crime is not just a priority, but a fundamental commitment for us.”

Following the man’s arrest, no further incidents were captured on the CCTV camera and Rowland Hill did not report any more hateful posters or stickers near the nursery site.
