Improved access arrangements for Wireless Festival weekend in Finsbury Park

Festival goers and park users are to benefit from improved safety and security measures in Finsbury Park for the Wireless weekend next month (Friday 12 July 2024 – Sunday 14 July 2024).

Following discussions between Haringey Council, Festival Republic and the Metropolitan Police, new efforts will be taken to ensure both ticket holders and non-ticket holders enjoy the festival and the park in a safe and secure manner.

Park users continue to use Finsbury Park throughout the major events schedule each summer and the council and its partners acknowledge and recognise just how important it is for them to enjoy the park safely too.

Changes will be made to access routes along the Stroud Green pathway and new fencing arrangements will be put in place, but park users will still be able to use the tennis courts and skate plaza while the Wireless Festival is taking place.

Haringey Council’s Assistant Director Direct Services, Mark Stevens, said:

Wireless attracts thousands of music fans who get to see world-class artists performing in Haringey and we want to make it an experience that everyone will remember.

The safety of all people using the park throughout the weekend will always be our number one priority and we continue to make improvements for both event and non-event users.

The council has worked closely with Festival Republic and the police to consider the most effective ways to keep everyone using the park safe during that weekend and to deter non-ticket holders from gaining unauthorised entry into the event.

As a result of this, we are making changes this year that will include new fencing and new temporary gates being installed at the junction of Oxford Road and Stroud Green paths and on the approach to the skate plaza/tennis courts on the Stroud Green path.

The gates will be closed from 2pm each event day and will only be accessible to park users who are using the tennis courts or those using the skate plaza. We want to make it clear that access for park users will remain throughout the weekend with extra supervision in place.

This measure is just one part of a broad range of steps we have taken to ensure that festival goers and park users have a highly enjoyable and safe experience across that weekend.
