“The incident that took place in Southport this week is truly heartbreaking. I’m sure like me, you have been deeply affected.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the bereaved and injured.

“At a time when communities need to come together to heal, the violent disorder and intimidation that has been taking place up and down the country is tearing communities apart. I am outraged at the wave of violence that has spread across the country.

"It's especially worrying to see Muslim communities being targeted and in Haringey we will do all we can to ensure all of our communities feel supported.

“Haringey is a diverse and vibrant borough and we must come together during these challenging times. We stand united in condemning these acts of violence and call for calm and peaceful protest.

“There is no place for hate in Haringey.

“I want to send a message of reassurance to everyone in our borough. We will not allow fear and hatred to undermine the fabric of our community.

“We are working closely with the Police who have increased patrols in the borough. Our community safety team has been and will continue to reach out to Mosques and places of worship.

“I am proud to lead such a wonderful borough. Our diversity is our strength and every resident deserves to feel safe and supported.

“If you witness a hate crime, report it. Let’s show those who seek to divide us we are united and unbreakable.”
