Building design and placemaking in Haringey continues to be one of the biggest strengths for Haringey’s planning team that have made significant improvements over the last 12 years. The judges recognised that Haringey has delivered a “much better quality service at below average cost.”
Haringey’s Carbon Management team also shared the award for Planning to Address Climate Change with Hackney Council and London Councils for the partnership work that went into the Low Carbon Development Toolkit.
This toolkit aims to aid planning teams in achieving better outcomes, and fostering greater consistency, when it comes to positive low-carbon results across the built environment in London.
In another encouraging development from the awards ceremony, the St Ann’s New Neighbourhood was victorious in the Best Use of Publicly Owned-Land and/or Property in Placemaking category for the Hill Group, Lambert Smith Hampton and Peabody.
In addition, Haringey also won Planning Authority of the Year 2024 Award at the Royal Town Planning Institute London regional awards.
Haringey Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, Cllr Sarah Williams, said:
I’m absolutely delighted at just how well Haringey performed at the 2024 Planning Awards and especially with us winning the Local Authority Team of the Year accolade.
It shows how far we’ve come that we’re now being regarded as the best local planning authority having been seen as the worst back in 2012.
I’d like to congratulate everyone who has worked tirelessly over the last dozen years to get us to this point of delivering best-in-class placemaking and planning in the borough.
This awards haul is fantastic recognition for them and Haringey overall.
