Nicky, who lived in Highgate, served as councillor for Archway Ward from 1986 to 2002 and was co-founder of the Jacksons Lane Arts Centre.

A champion of the environment, Nicky set up the London Climate Change Agency as well as establishing the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.

Amongst her many other achievements in office, she developed the inaugural London Plan, the Mayor’s capital-wide planning blueprint.

Leader of Haringey Council, Cllr Peray Ahmet, said:

I was devastated to hear about the passing of my friend Nicky Gavron.

As well as her huge contribution to Haringey and London, she was one of the most decent and wonderful women I’ve met in politics. She was always on hand to offer encouragement and guidance.

We will miss Nicky and on behalf of the people of Haringey, send our sincerest condolences to her family.
