This is part of an ongoing effort to support the borough's new Parking Strategy, launched in July 2024. This consultation is an exciting opportunity for the community to engage directly with the council and influence decisions that will impact local road space management.
The Parking Strategy, developed in collaboration with residents, aims to address the challenges of parking in a densely populated borough.
Key proposals under consideration include the introduction of electric vehicle charging bays, future of daily visitor permits, the implementation of a workplace virtual blue badge permit, and new provisions for business visitor permits and temporary cover permits, among others.
As the next step in this process, the council is keen to gather feedback from residents and businesses through a Statutory Consultation. This will help determine whether these proposed policies will meet the needs of the community and enhance parking accessibility in Haringey.
Cllr Seema Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Tackling Inequality and Resident Services, said:
No decisions have been taken. This consultation will provide valuable insights into whether these proposals will directly benefit our community. Only then can we move forward in prioritising accessibility for those who need it most.
Efficient parking management is a key component of our strategy and is essential for fostering a vibrant community. Our residents have played a crucial role in this initiative, and their feedback has been instrumental, and we hope this continues throughout the consultation.
Parking spaces in high-density areas like Haringey are in short supply, and it’s crucial that we understand the needs of our residents and businesses.
There are no proposals to cap the number of visitor permits available to residents.
The council is committed to considering all feedback before making any decisions regarding the implementation of the proposed policies. Residents and businesses are encouraged to review the proposed changes and share their views by November 20, 2024.
