Sixth year likely to be the very best for Tottenham Lit Fest

The sixth year of a literary festival promises to be the best with a joyous celebration of captivating stories by Black artists, authors and poets.

The annual Tottenham Literature Festival starts on Monday (11 November 2024) and will run throughout next week at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre (BGAC).

With this year’s theme being ‘Black Imaginations,’ attendees will gather to discuss and explore how imagination powerfully transforms stories and realities.

Some of the notable highlights in the 2024 programme include:

Tuesday 12 November – 7:30pm – 9pm: Zeinab Badawi in conversation with Paula Akpan – International broadcast journalist Zeinab Badawi discusses her debut book An African History of Africa with journalist Paula Akpan.

Wednesday 13 November – Schools’ Day: Pupils from three primary schools will be working with three different poets in workshops throughout the day to learn new skills and techniques and also get a chance to showcase their work to other schools in Haringey.

Friday 15 November – 11am – 1pm: Danielle Jawando – Online Masterclass: Writing for Young People – Join award-winning writer and playwright Danielle Jawando for an inspiring and interactive masterclass about writing for young people.

Friday 14 November – 7:30pm – 9pm: An Evening with Diane Abbott, hosted by Bernadine Evaristo. A special evening as two icons come together for an unforgettable event: Diane Abbott, the first Black woman ever elected to Parliament, will delve into the powerful stories behind her brilliant memoir, A Woman Like Me, in conversation with Bernardine Evaristo, the first Black woman to win the Booker Prize. Saturday 16 November – Various Times: Saturday kicks off with the Family Festival Morning, which features a fun-filled programme of activities for families, including performances and workshops.

The afternoon session promises an exciting mix of live performances, interactive workshops and more! The Artist in Residence this time around is the award-winning poet, Victoria Adukwei Bulley, who will deliver a keynote speech and workshop on Saturday 16 November.

Closing out the festival will be Inua Ellams’ R.A.P. Party – a music-filled evening where literature, poetry and sound meet!

Tickets start from £5 for adults, with Tottenham tickets available for residents of N15 and N17. There are also FREE activities taking place on Saturday morning and afternoon.
