What you need

To be a governor, you must: 

  • be over 18 
  • work as part of a team 
  • have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check carried out within 28 days of becoming a governor 
  • go to virtual and face-to-face governing body and committee meetings 
  • occasionally arrange with the school to visit during school hours 
  • go to induction and other governor training sessions 

Skills we’re looking for 

We’re looking for governors who: 

  • are passionate about making a difference 
  • want to support local schools 
  • want to help give children the best start in life 

Some governors have skills from their professional life, like finance or human resources. Others bring their life skills or experience to the role, and their knowledge of the local community.
