What you need to apply for free school meals and school clothing grant

Free school meals

If this is your first application, you must provide proof of: 

• your eligibility, like a document in your name, showing you get one of the eligible benefits
• your relationship to the child, like a benefit letter showing your name, the child's name and the child's date of birth 
• the child's date of birth, like their long birth certificate 

Contact us if you do not have suitable proof. Let us know your circumstances and what proof you do have. 

Clothing grant

If applying for a clothing grant, you must provide a bank statement less than 3 months old.
