Your right to appeal
You have the right to appeal the refusal of a place at any schools you applied for.
A panel of 3 volunteers will consider your appeal. The volunteers have no connection to the school you appeal for. Both the school and the admission authority must accept the panel’s decision.
Very few appeals are successful. When an appeal is successful, it's usually because of exceptional circumstances.
For information on how many appeals are successful each year, read the appeals admissions statistics.
We strongly recommend you accept the school place you are offered. This means your child has a school place in September. Accepting a school place does not affect your appeal decision or your child’s position on a waiting list.
Our appeals are arranged by an external independent appeal clerk. Find out about the external independent appeal clerk process on the Education Appeals website.
After the appeal
You'll get the appeal decision in writing after all appeals for that school are held.
If you're unhappy with how the appeal was run, you can make a complaint.
See GOV.UK for details on how to complain about the appeals process.
