Approved premises licences

How to apply, fees, what happens after you've applied.

Apply for an approved premises licence

There are a number of venues across Haringey that have been licensed to hold marriage and civil partnership ceremonies. These venues are known as approved premises and you can apply for a licence for your venue too.

There a is a different process for certifying a building for worship or marriage.

To become an approved venue, your venue must be:

  • a permanent structure
  • open to the public
  • non-religious in nature

The licence fee

The fee is £326 for a 5 year licence.

We will collect payment of the fee as part of the application process. The fee is the same whether you licence 1 room or 10. The fee is non refundable if your application is refused.

Venue plans

Before you submit your application you must compile a plan of your venue, clearly outlining the room or rooms you want to be licensed. Please submit a copy of your venue plan along with your application form.

After you have applied

Once we receive your application, we will visit and inspect your premises and discuss the application, to make sure the relevant criteria and conditions are met.

We will also discuss whether you need any additional licences, for example:

  • entertainment licences
  • sale of alcohol licences

New bookings

If you are applying to become an approved premises, you should not advertise or take bookings for any marriage and civil partnership ceremonies until the application is completed and approved premises status has been granted.

Advertising your application

After we have confirmed that the premises has met the criteria and conditions laid down, the application will be advertised on our website for a statutory notice period of 21 days. This allows residents to view the application and to make any objections.

Objections

If any objection(s) are received to an application, the approval process will be suspended. Only once the objection(s) has been investigated and it is established as to whether or not it affects the approval of the premises, will the process continue to either grant or refuse the application.

After your venue has been approved

Providing no objections are received your venue will be granted approved premises status, once the 21-day period has ended. We will send you an approval pack, containing:

  • a formal notification that the application has been approved
  • copies of the plans sent in with the application
  • any conditions attached to the approval
  • notices to be displayed in the rooms that ceremonies are to be conducted in
  • a copy of the entry in the register of approved premises
  • guidance information to give to couples booking a ceremony on your premises
