Black History Haringey 365 – programme launch

On the night expect:

  • music from DJABLES & Ajiboy, young DJ’s from Mission London’s Discovery Programme
  • a panel discussion around Reclaiming Narratives (the National Black History Month theme for 2024), chaired by Kenneth Tharp, Joint-Assistant Director for Culture and Creativity at Haringey Council. The panel will feature speakers from a diverse mix of backgrounds and disciplines, they will be sharing their experiences and insights into the power of stories as a tool for change.

Veronica McKenzie, filmmaker, historian and curator:
Veronica is a prolific creative working in the film, archive and curatorial space. Her films include ‘UNDER YOUR NOSE’ (2017) about the UK's black Queer history described as a ‘seminal work’ by the Black Cultural Archives, and ‘NINE NIGHTS‘ starring T’Nia Miller and Jo Martin, which won the Pan African Film Festival Narrative Feature Director Award 2019.

Haringey Vanguard, was a Black LGBTQ+ National Lottery Funded project (2020), and her other projects include 'Winter Room 1991' for Museum Of The Home, We Are Here for MOCA Gallery, and ‘Ships, Passengers & Ports’ for the Royal Maritime Museum (2023), amongst a number of unique exhibitions.

Emily Oduro, co-founder of The Daughters United:
The Daughters United empowers women and girls through coaching and mentoring workshops designed on evidence-based practices. An Associate Lecturer, Life Coach and Advanced Practitioner Lead, Emily drives impactful learning experiences by leading academic programs, managing operations, and fostering development for students and staff.

Yvonne Field, Founder and CEO of The Ubele Initiative:

Yvonne Field OBE is the founder and CEO of The Ubele Initiative. Yvonne is a social justice advocate and social entrepreneur with a focus on supporting development for women and Black and racially minoritised communities.

Yvonne has worked with the not-for-profit and public sector for more than four decades; she established and ran her own training and management consultancy business for almost 20 years and has been an academic at Goldsmiths, University of London. 

Yvonne is a Churchill Fellow, Fellow of the Institute for Learning and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA). 

In 2023, Yvonne received an OBE, for her contribution to the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector and  Social Justice.

This event is free and open for everyone to join, however booking is necessary. There will be limited tickets as the event will be held in the upstairs Mezzanine of the Bernie Grant Arts Centre.

There will be a bar where you can buy drink refreshments.

There is paid parking in Marcus Garvey Library/Tottenham Green and behind Bernie Grant Arts Centre. The nearest tube and overground station is Seven Sisters.
