This will include another 40 bike hangars, and enough spaces for 240 bikes, to be delivered by the end of July.
The latest batch will bring the total number of cycle spaces to almost 1,800 as the council closes in on its target of 2,000 plus by the end of 2024/25.
Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in the borough, and it is hoped that the increase in cycle hangars will significantly reduce the number of people waiting for a safe spot to park their bike.
As well as this investment to install cycle hangars alongside protected cycle lanes, the council launched an e-bike hire scheme in March 2024 as part of its Streets for People programme, giving local people more opportunities for affordable, active travel, while also cutting pollution and congestion and improving public health.
Cllr Mike Hakata, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport, said:
I’m really pleased we are racing towards our target of 2,000 cycle hangar spaces.
We want to encourage people to travel actively because it has so many benefits and know that access to safe, secure storage for bikes is really important.
There has been a significant increase in the number of people cycling since the pandemic and with the roll out of our Streets for People programme, we expect to see even more people using bikes to get around.
On-street covered hangars typically have room for six bikes and take up less space than a single car.
