Options for recycling in north London have been boosted with the opening of a state-of the-art facility.

Cabinet Members Cllr Mike Hakata and Cllr Dana Carlin joined representatives from Enfield and Waltham Forest for the official unveiling of the Edmonton EcoPark Reuse and Recycling Centre this week.

The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) facility allows residents to bring appliances, electrical devices and furniture, as well as accepting hard-to-recycle items such as carpets, polystyrene and vapes.

It joins an extensive network of eight RRCs across north London, including Haringey’s own Western Road site.

Many of the features have been selected by the NLWA to improve the user experience, with a split-level design of bays avoiding the use of stairs and a roof and exterior fins to provide shelter from the elements for operatives and visitors.

With drop-off zones for recycling segregated from car and van users, pedestrians and cyclists are welcome on the site.

There are also 10 reverse car parking spaces and an accessible parking bay included on the interior car deck.

A booking system is in place as the operator, LondonEnergy Ltd, increases traffic through the site on a trial basis. The trial booking system is expected to be retired in the first few months of operations.

Residents are invited to bring over 150 different items, including household recycling, large and small electrical appliances and garden waste, to the site.

The NLWA website lists all the accepted items and provides details on how to book a visit.

The site will allow residents to bring their waste directly to the EcoPark to be recycled for the very first time ever, having been a dedicated waste management site for over 50 years until now.

These flagship facilities were constructed by Taylor Woodrow as part of the North London Heat and Power Project.

The buildings works are continuing with the community and visitor centre called ‘EcoPark House’ and the new Energy Recovery Facility.
