Hate has no home in Haringey

Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Ajda Ovat, and Cabinet Champion for Communities, Cllr Mark Grosskopf, recently met with representatives from the borough’s Multi-Faith Forum at the London Islamic Cultural Society/Wightman Road Mosque.

The duo spoke with Geoffrey Folkes, Bibi Khan MBE and Judith Prinsley at the meeting, which showcased the collaborative and community-focused work being done by the council and the Multi-Faith Forum to tackle hate crime in the borough.

They were all present too at the official launch of Hate Crime Awareness Week here in Haringey at the Hornsey-based London Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi on Monday 14 October 2024.

Cllr Ovat commented:

In Haringey, we pride ourselves on our diversity and inclusivity. We’re a welcoming borough and we strive for community cohesion. This is evident through our work with the Multi-Faith Forum & our community outreach work.

Cllr Grosskopf said:

As a Cllr who is Charedi in Haringey, I’m proud to say that we don’t tolerate any hate. The Multi-Faith Forum is a shining example of what we can achieve by bringing different communities together as – by being part of that forum – I have seen first-hand what we have done together and, by putting Haringey residents first, there’s no place for hate.
