Anthony Gifford KC returns to Tottenham

Anthony Gifford KC recently returned to Haringey following his seminal report into the Broadwater Farm riots almost 40 years ago now.

Gifford met the Leader, Cllr Peray Ahmet, our Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Ajda Ovat, Sharon Grant OBE and other distinguished guests at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre on Friday 11 October 2024.

He heard from council staff and residents on the transformation taking place at Broadwater Farm and the positive impact it will have on our N17 community.

Gifford was also presented with a piece of the estate by Cllr Ahmet and Broadwater Farm Programme Director, David Sherrington, as a token of our appreciation for all his efforts four decades on.

Gifford commented:

There are two main reasons why I wanted to come back to Haringey. Bernie (Grant) was - in a way - a mentor & a hero to me & I wanted to reunite with Tottenham. I put my heart & soul into that inquiry.

Cllr Ahmet said:

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Lord Gifford back to Haringey. “The Gifford report was a seminal piece of work and we are hopefully able to demonstrate that Haringey has taken the main learnings on board. "We will always aim to put our communities at the heart of all we do.
