There were moving and poignant services at war memorials in Hornsey, Tottenham, West Green and Wood Green, as well as one at St Saviours Court in Alexandra Palace.
The Leader, Cllr Peray Ahmet, the Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Sue Jameson, and distinguished guests joined faith, partner and youth organisations in laying wreaths for the fallen in Wood Green.
Across the way from the Civic Centre and St Michael’s Church, this ceremony began with an opening prayer and the hymn ‘O God, Our Help In Ages Past’ before Chloe Dorigan, the Muswell Hill and Highgate branch secretary of the Royal British Legion, read her organisation’s exhortation.
Peter Rudeforth then performed The Last Post prior to an immaculately observed two minutes’ silence.
The Reveille and Kohima Epitaph duly followed and preceded the wreath-laying ceremony and prayers from representatives of the Multi-Faith Forum in Haringey.
There then was a reading of the Moina Michael WWI poem ‘We Shall Keep The Faith’ and renditions of the hymn ‘Eternal Father, Strong To Save’ and the final blessing ‘God grant to the living, grace.’ The national anthem fittingly concluded this Remembrance Sunday service in Wood Green.
Here’s a montage of the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Wood Green war memorial:
There was a further service at the war memorial in the Garden of Remembrance at Tottenham Cemetery on Armistice Day itself (Monday 11 November 2024).
Lest we forget.
We will remember them.
