Haringey Design Awards
The Haringey Design Awards are a key part of our commitment to promote, encourage and foster thoughtful and exciting design within Haringey. They provide an excellent opportunity to recognise and raise awareness of high quality buildings and places that make a positive contribution to Haringey’s built environment.
As well as celebrating great buildings and places, the awards help develop links with stakeholders, and bring together local people, members, architects, developers and planners to participate in wider discussions and debate around design.
2021 design award winners
Our independent judging panel made its decisions and the winners were unveiled at the awards ceremony on 19 October 2021.
The overall winner of the 2021 Haringey Design Awards was Green House, by architect Hayhurst & Co for Tom van Schelven and Amandine Neyses. Green House also won the best house and sustainable building awards.

Overall award winner 2021
The Overall Haringey Design Awards Winner for 2021 is the Green House.
The Green House is a new build in the Clyde Circus Conservation Area of Tottenham. It has been constructed on land once used for market garden greenhouses and is a contemporary re-interpretation.
The house has impressive sustainability credentials and is low-carbon, both in construction and use.
Architect: Hayhurst & Co for Tom van Schelven and Amandine Neyses.
Sustainable building award
Developments that address the climate emergency, promote sustainability and protecting/improving the natural environment, green buildings, low or zero-carbon buildings.

Heritage award
A project that is exemplary of the highest standards of listed or locally listed building restoration, extension, adaptive re-use, retrofit, shop front improvement or any other good example of historic building conservation, including projects in conservation areas, completed in the last 3 years.

Inclusive design award
The best new inclusive design, including good examples of buildings achieving physical accessibility, social accessibility and community accessibility, completed in the last 3 years.

Placemaking award
The best new piece of urban design, regeneration, public space, new development supporting active travel, including public art, street lighting/street furniture and any other improvement to public spaces, completed in the last 3 years.

Excellent homes
Including affordable housing, very large-scale developments of more than 100 homes, smaller major developments of 10 to 100 homes and equally, the best new smaller-scale multiple new-homes developments of 2 to 10 new homes.

Best house
The popular category for the best new individual house or extensions to an existing home in Haringey, including self-build and experimental new houses.

Award for the best building quality of new buildings, renovations and conversions, including for exemplary achievement of building control compliance, great quality of building construction, safety, craftsmanship and use of apprenticeships.

Previous award winners
The overall winner of the 2018 Haringey Design Awards was Alexandra Palace Theatre, by architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios for Willmott Dixon and Alexandra Palace and Park Charitable Trust (APPCT)
In 2016, the overall winner was Broadwaters Inclusive Learning Community Project, by Gollifer Langston Architects for London Borough of Haringey.
