Highgate Neighbourhood Forum and Area

Part of: Neighbourhood planning

The Highgate Neighbourhood Forum applied to Haringey and Camden councils in 2012 to be formally redesignated as a neighbourhood forum, in accordance with the Town and Country Planning Act (1990) and neighbourhood planning regulations.

Forum designations last for a period of 5 years, so the forum was re-designated in 2018 and again in 2023.

See the Highgate Neighbourhood Forum website.

Highgate Neighbourhood Plan

The forum produced a neighbourhood development plan for the Highgate Neighbourhood Area which, together with the adopted planning policy documents for both Haringey and Camden councils, forms the basis for determining planning applications in the area.

The plan was adopted on 20 July 2017, following a successful independent examination and local referendum and now forms part of our statutory development plan.

Any planning applications within this area will need to have regard to the policies within the plan, alongside our adopted Local Plan.

2023 redesignation

The forum was established in 2012 and redesignated in 2018. In 2023 the forum applied to be redesignated again.

Consultation

The application was consulted on between 4 May and 23 June 2023. No changes were proposed to the designated neighbourhood area which is shown as part of the application for information.

The redesignation of Highgate Neighbourhood Forum was made by Camden and Haringey councils on 8 September 2023. Therefore the Forum is designated for a further 5 years from this date.

Impact of the re-designation on residents

The Highgate Neighbourhood Forum can continue to make modifications to the Highgate neighbourhood plan for the area or prepare a replacement plan.

A neighbourhood plan is a statutory planning document setting out general planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood. Camden and Haringey councils adopted the current Highgate neighbourhood plan in 2017 following a local referendum.
