School distance admissions criteria

Most children are offered a school place based on how close they live to the school. This is called the distance criterion.

You can find out likely it is for your child is to be offered a place at a particular school by:

Children living nearest a school are offered places first, followed by those living further away, until the school is full.

The furthest distance we can offer places to (also known as the cutoff distance) changes each year depending on the number of school applications. This means a child may get a place at a particular school one year, but the following year a child on the same street may not get a place. We do not know what the furthest distance we can offer is until all offers are made.

See GOV.UK for a list, or map view, of schools near you. You can filter the list and see information on the school's performance.
