Local Housing Allowance is used to work out how much housing benefit you get if you rent privately.

Disagree with or appeal a Local Housing Allowance decision

Who can appeal

You or your landlord can appeal a decision to pay:

  • you and not the landlord
  • the landlord and not you

You cannot appeal a decision about the:

  • level of Local Housing Allowance set by the rent service
  • boundary of a Broad Rental Market Area

How to make an appeal

Appeals must be made in writing within 1 month of the date of our decision. 

You must include:

  • the date of the decision
  • what you're appealing
  • evidence to support your appeal
