£7m invested in Haringey’s roads

Haringey will continue to take strong action to maintain and improve its 217-mile road network with £7m investment next year following extensive engagement and co-production with residents.

33 roads and 24 footways will be resurfaced, with £1m also set aside to support maintenance works such as repairing potholes and fixing trip hazards.

The repair or replacement of essential street assets like bollards, benches, signs, signposts and planters is also covered thanks to £200,000 investment.

The roll out of LED street lighting will continue to reduce the borough’s carbon emissions, with additional lighting installed across Haringey’s housing estates, parks and road network.

The council has acted quickly to respond to calls in the Safety of Women At Night (SWAN) survey to improve community safety with more street lighting.

Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Resident Services and Tackling Inequality, Cllr Seema Chandwani, said: “This funding will benefit us all by implementing public realm projects that help keep Haringey accessible, more environmentally friendly and safe.

“We understand just how important these improvements are to our residents and businesses and we have listened to what they want.

“This is about maintaining our infrastructure as a borough and investment for all Haringey residents.”

When developing major highway schemes, the council will continue to engage with Haringey residents and businesses to ensure their feedback and inputs have a bearing on the final plans and proposals.

Alongside the Highways and Street Lighting Investment Plan, updates to the Highways Asset Management Strategy and the Street Lighting Strategy were approved at Cabinet last night (12 March).
