Newly renovated diving boards have been officially unveiled at Park Road Pools and Fitness today (Monday 29 July 2024) after great partnership work between Divegym, Haringey Aquatics Club and Haringey Council.
The council has invested £50k-plus in restoring the diving boards and – on the very same day Tom Daley clinched a fabulous fifth Olympic medal with silver alongside Noah Williams in the men’s synchronised 10m platform in Paris – it’s hoped children and young people across the borough will be inspired to follow in the GB Olympian’s famous footsteps.
Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, commented:
I’m delighted to be here at Park Road Pools and Fitness, where we’ve invested £50,000 in renovating the diving boards and this is before we insource our Leisure services later this year.
It’s a really great opportunity for our children and young people to learn to dive in the pools. The Olympics are happening right now and over the next few weeks and we hope that lots of young people will be inspired by Tom Daley and his GB diving team-mates in Paris and that they’ll take up the opportunity here in Parks Road Pools to learn to dive.
Maybe, one day, they’ll be part of the GB diving team that we’ll be supporting at the Olympics in the future!
Haringey Aquatics Club chairman, David Skinner, said:
Haringey Aquatics is delighted to once again be able to offer young people in north London the opportunity to participate in the sport of diving.
With so few diving facilities remaining in London, the importance of the refurbishment work cannot be understated in terms of promoting access and opportunity at a grassroots level.
We would like to thank Haringey Council for recognising this and prioritising this initiative.
