This result means the borough’s youngsters have kept up their impressive recent record of not having finished outside of the top two in any of the last four years, with two gold and two silver medals apiece in that time.
Encouragingly for the borough’s sporting prospects now and in the future too, our para-athletes also came second in the London-wide competition for the ParaGames Trophy in 2024.
Wandsworth claimed that particular title, with one of Haringey’s neighbouring boroughs, Hackney, finishing third in both the Jubilee and ParaGames Trophy tournaments.
Haringey claimed gold medals in girls’ hockey, girls’ Para-football and tennis, while silvers were achieved in boys’ handball, girls’ football, girls’ Para-athletics and the U13 girls’ indoor cricket.
Podium places were obtained in boys’ athletics, boys’ volleyball, boys’ Para-football, inclusive basketball and the U15 girls’ indoor cricket for bronze medals as well.
Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, said:
I’d like to congratulate Haringey’s young athletes for finishing second twice at the London Youth Games this year and keeping up our tremendous track record in this capital-wide competition.
I’d also like to thank all the administrators, carers/parents, coaches, teachers and volunteers who go to great lengths behind-the-scenes to make it all possible for these aspiring athletes to compete and showcase their sporting talent.
Many GB Olympians have competed in the London Youth Games in the past and who is to say we won’t be cheering on these young athletes from Haringey at Olympic Games in the future?
I’m confident we’ll be able to replicate our formidable form in the 2025 edition of the London Youth Games and maintain our status as one of the best boroughs in the capital when it comes to youth sport.
Haringey Council commissions the Haringey Sports Development Trust to ensure the borough’s young athletes can compete and perform at the London Youth Games on an annual basis.

The success over the last four years has been down to good, old-fashioned sports development.
When we first re-entered the London Youth Games in 1995, we finished 31st and – gradually, over the years – we’ve worked in partnership with sports clubs and been superbly supported along the way by schools, parents, coaches and the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation to get to where we are today – always remembering ‘We Are Haringey!’
