Launched in May this year, the pioneering project brings together the council and local community to collaborate on practical steps that can be taken to tackle the climate emergency.
There was a great turnout last night (26 September 2024), with over 30 residents coming together to discuss actions, opportunities, and solutions for a low-carbon future.
Transport was a key theme of the meeting which included a presentation and valuable input from round table discussions on the development of a new strategy for the borough.
The forum featured a slot on the upcoming fourth round of the council’s Community Carbon Fund, a major pot of money already supporting dozens of community-led sustainability projects.
Participants also heard an inspiring case study on the opportunities for installing solar panels and retrofitting of local buildings, from community energy group En10ergy.
The meeting was opened and closed by Cllr Mike Hakata, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Environment and Transport.
He said: “It was great to see so many people who are passionate about the environment come together to challenge, inspire and share what is happening across the borough.
“The partnership is celebrating and building on this energy by pooling together our knowledge, creativity and resources so we can create a fairer, greener borough.
“Whether you're concerned about green spaces, air quality, or simply want to contribute to making Haringey a more pleasant place to live, your input is invaluable. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with you.”
Recycling and the circular economy will be the theme of the next meeting, due to take place in January 2025.
