Cllr Peray Ahmet, Haringey Council Leader, has issued a statement on the first anniversary of the October 7 terror attack that took place in Israel.

A year ago the Israeli people suffered an appalling act of terrorism.

This evening we will light our civic building, George Meehan House, in white to symbolise our collective hope for peace and security for the people of Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and across the region.

We know the events of the last year have caused great pain for many in Haringey.  Our communities have arcs that reach across the world and what happens in the Middle East reverberates powerfully here.  We feel the trauma of these horrors intimately.

One life lost is one too many.

Hate will not be tolerated in our borough and if any resident experiences or witnesses a hate crime I urge them to report it here – How to report a hate crime or hate incident | Haringey Council

Haringey has a proud history of standing together against hate and division.

Today we stand as one community united in the hope of a peaceful future.
