We know emotions are high and there is anxiety amongst our communities following the police raid that took place at the Kurdish Community Centre on Wednesday.
The closure of the centre is having a major impact, not just on the Kurdish community, who are an integral part of our diverse borough, but the wider Haringey community.
In the interests of community cohesion and to help bridge the relationship between the community and the police, the council facilitated a meeting this afternoon so concerns could be raised and addressed, and people felt like they were being listened to.
The community had strong feelings about the centre being closed and urged the police to get this re-opened as quickly as possible.
We also called on the police to ensure that any future communications to residents take into account the sensitivities of the community and do not stigmatise any group.
Rest assured we are fighting for everyone, and we stand together as one community in Haringey. This is a sensitive issue for many of you, and our top priority is to ensure that you feel safe and are supported.
