Apply for or renew your schools permit

Part of: Schools parking permits

A school can have up to 20 standard charge permits, and up to an additional 10 higher charge permits. 

Before a different vehicle uses the permit, you must transfer it in your online account. 

What you need 

When you apply you must upload or post a document, signed by the head teacher on school headed paper, detailing the permit need including: 

  • availability of other parking 
  • how close your school is to public transport 
  • the school staff travel plan 
  • other information that could support the application 

You must give 2 streets near your school where you'd like to park and we'll check for available parking. Where you can park will be listed on your permit. 

Apply 

  1. Log in to your parking account or set up a parking account. If setting up a new account, select ‘School essential svc’ as your ‘Customer Type’. If you already have an account with a different customer type, you must set up a new account for your essential service permit.
  2. Select ‘Your permits’ and ‘See permits you can apply for (not visitor permits)’.  
  3. Click ‘Apply’ for Essential Service – Schools Transferable or Essential Service – Schools Transferable (Higher Charge).
  4. Agree to the terms and conditions.   
  5. Enter the locations of the 2 roads where you want to park.  
  6. Enter your vehicle registration, click ‘Find vehicle’, then click ‘Add vehicle’.  
  7. Enter the date you want the permit to start.   
  8. You’ll see the cost of your permit.  
  9. Upload your documents or tick the ‘Send in post’ box.   
  10. Pay for your permit.   

You can apply for schools transferable essential service (higher charge) permits once you have a standard charge permit. 

Renew your permit 

Your permit lasts for a year. You’ll get an email 5 weeks before your permit ends telling you to renew your permit.  

To renew your permit: 

  1. Log in to your parking account
  2. Under ‘Your permits’ click ‘View your permits’.  
  3. Click ‘Renew’ for the permit you want to renew.  
  4. Confirm your details.  
  5. Leave the renewal start date as it is. Your new permit will start when your current permit ends.  
  6. Upload your proof documents.  
  7. Review your permit details and pay for your permit renewal.  

After applying or renewing

After applying for or renewing your permit, you’ll get an email letting you know we’re processing your application.    

Processing your application takes up to 5 working days.  

If your new application's approved, you can use your permit right away.  

If your permit is not approved, we’ll let you know why and if we need more information. 

Transfer the permit  

To transfer the permit to a different vehicle:  

  1. Log in to your parking account
  2. Under ‘Your permits’ click ‘View your permits’.  
  3. Click ‘View/edit’ for ‘Essential Service - Schools Transferable’.   
  4. Click ‘Change’ next to ‘Vehicle registration’.   
  5. Enter the new vehicle registration, click ‘Find vehicle’, then click ‘Add vehicle’.    
  6. Submit your change of vehicle.  

The new vehicle is now covered by the permit.
