Getting to school on time and in time for registration is an important part of the school day. If your child misses this part of the day, they could:
- miss out on important learning which could affect their achievement
- miss social time with friends and the time to settle into class
- be embarrassed for disrupting the rest of the class
Arriving after the school register
If your child arrives after the school register closes, it’s recorded as an unauthorised absence.
High levels of unauthorised absence can result in:
- a referral to our education welfare officer
- you being issued a fixed penalty notice (fine)
- legal action being taken against you
How to get to school on time
To avoid being late for school:
- find out what time school starts and how long it takes your child to get there
- have a regular routine for the start of each day
- help your child get their clothes and equipment ready before they go to bed
- set a reasonable bedtime to make sure they get enough sleep
