Recognising School Streets

Part of: School Streets

We let people know about School Streets by:

  • putting up signs in and around School Streets
  • informing the public in different ways

School Street signs

We install 2 'pedestrian and cycle zone' signs at the entrance point of a School Street.

This is more than the national requirement to install a single sign at each School Street entrance.

The signs show the:

The signs can fold so they’re only visible during the School Street’s operating hours.

This is an example of a folding School Street sign:

A sign saying 'Pedestrian and Cycle Zone.' It shows when cars cannot go in and says which permit holders can drive there anytime. It also shows how the sign folds so that it's covered when it's not needed.

Other types of sign around School Streets include:

  • advance warning signs
  • camera-enforcement warning signs
