Swimmers in Tottenham have been given a boost with news that the teaching pool at Tottenham Green leisure centre is to reopen on Tuesday 16 January.
The reopening follows many months of work by Haringey Council engineers and specialist contractors to rebuild the centre’s high voltage electrical system following a major fault due to flooding to the plant room.
Adult lane swimming and family swim sessions will be available on a daily basis. Find the full schedule and book your swim using the Fusion Lifestyle app or online. Sessions are likely to be fully booked, so customers are recommended to book in advance.
The main pool remains closed while the council and Fusion Lifestyle complete essential maintenance and cleaning works. It is hoped that full service at the centre will be restored in time for school half-term holidays in February.
Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, said:
“I’m delighted that we are finally able to announce that the teaching pool is reopening at Tottenham Green, with the main pool to follow in a few weeks.
“This has been a complicated piece of work and I know that many residents have been extremely frustrated with the closure of the pools throughout 2023, but thanks to hard work by our specialist staff and contractors we are able to start 2024 with the really positive news that we are now in a position to restore swimming provision in the east of the borough.
“I can’t wait to see residents back in the pools at Tottenham Green, and look forward to working together with our communities to provide a high quality leisure service going forward.”
In 2023, Haringey Council took the decision to take back control of the three leisure centres currently managed by Fusion Lifestyle as part of a long-term ambition to coproduce a comprehensive health and wellbeing service across the borough. Following a 12-month contractual notice period, the council plans to take control of the three centres no later than 2 October 2024. Follow this link to find out more.
