A council spokesperson said: “We are extremely disappointed to hear of the actions by Drapers, who gave assurances that not none of the residents would be made homeless and alternative accommodation would be provided. We want to ensure this commitment is met.
“The council is obliged by government rules to ensure that any person seeking housing support is eligible for assistance. Despite our best efforts, the Home Office has been unable to verify Mrs Campbell’s status.
“We have also been in contact with Mrs Campbell’s support worker to make a referral to the Windrush Support Unit and will continue to work tirelessly to resolve her immigration status.”
