Following a successful bid with the Centre for Homelessness Impact which aims to improve the lives of people experiencing homelessness through better use of data and evidence, Haringey was selected as one of the key locations to provide this much needed support.
This ground-breaking initiative, commissioned by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, will establish eight new outreach health services across the country and is set to run for 18 months.
Cllr Sarah Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning and Deputy Leader of the Council, said:
We are committed to improving the lives of our most vulnerable residents.
This project is a testament to our dedication to providing comprehensive support and healthcare services to those in need.
This is another fantastic step forward, which will play a crucial role in ensuring people in our borough have the support they need to live better, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
A full-time health specialist will be integrated into Haringey's local outreach team as part of the initiative. This dedicated nurse will provide essential healthcare services to those currently sleeping rough. In addition, those who transition into temporary or permanent accommodation during the trial period will continue to receive the same support.
Change, Grow, Live (CGL), a leading health and social care charity, has been commissioned to recruit and manage the nurses embedded within the outreach services. A senior lead nurse, recruited alongside the outreach nurses, will oversee the project to ensure a consistent approach, effective team management, and the facilitation of best practice sharing.
