Haringey is delighted to be working with the North London Hospice and Wild in Art to raise awareness and funds for the hospice.
Haringey Council’s owl was designed by Ellie Fryer - a freelance illustrator and muralist based in north London. Ellie focuses on creating works that pull from historical fact or folkloric tales, local environments, nature and creatures – real or imagined – weaving narratives to showcase the vibrancy of a place in time.
Commenting on the design of the 'A Meadow of Hares' owl, Ellie said:
This design was inspired by the Haringey Coat of Arms. The hares represent the borough as it is believed that Haringey means ‘Meadow of Hares.’
I’ve included British flora, the motto of Haringey ‘Progress with Humanity’ and its Demi sun which represented a new borough – the union of Hornsey, Wood Green and Tottenham in 1965. The demi cogwheel represents industry.
The Deputy Leader of Haringey Council, Cllr Sarah Williams, said:
We are proud to be home to the Big Fun Art Adventure – the first trail of its kind in north London.
The trail will offer local residents and visitors to the borough opportunities to experience these iconic artworks right across Haringey. It’s also another chance for people to get a taste of what’s to come when we are the London Borough of Culture in 2027.
Over 50 owls have swooped into Haringey and have been designed by artists and local schools and community groups from Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. To join the trail, visit the Big Fun Art Adventure website and tag #BigFunArt in any socials
