Haringey has provided a range of exciting events for our youngsters over the summer and the fun does not stop there.

If there’s a budding Vincent van Gogh in your family, they might enjoy attempting to create their very own Marvellous Sunflower Card using real sunflower seeds at Highgate Library on Friday afternoon (23 August, 2:30pm-3:30pm, Suitable for ages 3-10).

Alternatively, if singing is more their thing, they can belt out some well-known songs during a two-hour Karaoke session at Wood Green Library this Friday and next Friday (23 August & 30 August, both 2:30pm-4:30pm, Suitable for ages 3+).

This weekend, you can design an alien spaceship at Coombes Croft Library (11am-12noon, Suitable for ages 4-12) or your very own garden at Marcus Garvey Library (2:30pm-3:30pm) on Saturday (24 August 2024).

The latest film showing (Wall-E, 2008, U, 98 minutes) in our ‘Summer of Joy’ Mini-Film Festival will also be taking place at Wood Green Library on Saturday (24 August 2024) between 2pm and 4pm.

Next week, you can make your own cat (Tuesday 27 August 2024, 2:30pm-3:30pm, Suitable for ages 4+), friendship bracelets and necklaces (Wednesday 28 August, 2:30pm-3:30pm, Suitable for ages 4-12) and buckets and spades (Wednesday 28 August, 2:30pm-4pm) at Hornsey Library, Coombes Croft Library and Alexandra Park Library respectively.

Then, to round off the month, there will be face painting at St Ann’s Library (2pm-4pm, Suitable for children aged 5 and over, but designs will be simpler for younger ones. Children under 9 should be accompanied by a carer/parent) and a Roaring Lion Mask arts and crafts session at Marcus Garvey Library (2:30pm-3:30pm) on Saturday 31 August 2024.

The friendship bracelets and necklaces arts and crafts session shall return to Coombes Croft Library that morning as well (11am-12noon, Suitable for ages 4-12).

There’s also the La Feria Festival over at the beach area of Alexandra Palace Park on Saturday 31 August 2024 (12noon-6pm).

Free to attend, this event celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Latino community and promises to be an inclusive, engaging and joy experience for people of all ages. Register for Le Feria Festival at Ally Pally.

Meanwhile, early next month, different recycled materials will be used to create fun, engaging and enjoyable art in different forms at Stroud Green and Harringay Library (2:30pm-4pm) on Tuesday 3 September 2024.

Our highly successful South Asian Heritage Month programme also concludes in the coming days with George Partou’s piano recital and talk on Mount Kailash taking place at Hornsey Library this Saturday (24 August 2024, 3pm-4pm).

Young children can also make decorative elephants at arts and crafts sessions at St Ann’s Library on Saturday (24 August 2024, 10:30am-12noon) and next Wednesday (28 August 2024, 10:30am-12noon).
