Apply for or renew a foster carer essential service permit

What you need 

Documents you must upload to apply for the permit.

Proof you're a foster carer

A letter from Haringey social care confirming you're eligible for the foster carer permit

Proof of vehicle ownership 

You must upload proof that clearly shows your name as the vehicle owner or sole user. 

This can be: 

  • a vehicle log book (V5C)
  • a new keeper’s slip (V5C/2) plus a car purchase document on company headed paper showing car details, that you paid in full, buyer name, seller name and date
  • confirmation of your vehicle registration details plus a bill of sale on headed company paper
  • a lease agreement

If you use a company car, you must upload:

  • the log book (V5C) or hire agreement
  • company car details from your employer on headed paper saying you're the only person who uses the vehicle and it’s kept at your address

Apply 

  1. Log in to your parking account External link or set up for a parking account. If setting up a new account, select ‘Foster Carer’ as your ‘Customer Type’. If you already have an account with a different customer type, you must set up a new account for your essential service permit.  
  2. Select ‘Your permits’ and ‘See permits you can apply for (not visitor permits)’.  
  3. Click ‘Apply’ for ‘Essential Service – Foster Carer'.  
  4. Agree to the terms and conditions.   
  5. Enter your vehicle registration, click ‘Find vehicle’, then click ‘Add vehicle’.  
  6. Enter the date you want the permit to start.   
  7. You’ll see the cost of your permit.  
  8. Upload your documents or tick the ‘Send in post’ box.   
  9. Pay for your permit.   

Renew

Your permit lasts for a year. You’ll get an email 5 weeks before your permit ends asking you to renew your permit.  

To renew your permit: 

  1. Log in to your parking account.   
  2. Under ‘Your permits’ click ‘View your permits’.  
  3. Click ‘Renew’ for the permit you want to renew.  
  4. Confirm your details.  
  5. Leave the renewal start date as it is. Your new permit will start when your current permit ends.  
  6. Upload your proof documents.  
  7. Review your permits details and pay for your permit renewal. 

After applying or renewing

After applying for or renewing your permit, you’ll get an email letting you know we’re processing your application.    

Processing your application takes up to 5 working days.  

If your new application's approved, you can use your permit right away.  

If your permit is not approved, we’ll let you know why and if we need more information.
