If someone cares for you in your home, you can apply for a resident care at home permit.

The resident care at home permit replaces the resident carers' permit.

The permit is valid for 3 years and 1 month.  

How to use the permit

This is a paper permit. Give the paper permit to your carer to display in the windscreen of their car.

Civil enforcement officers will check the permit is valid using the reference number printed on the permit.  

Number of permits you can have

You can only have 1 resident care at home permit, but this can be used in different vehicles if you have different carers.

Where vehicles can park 

The permit can only be used in the controlled parking zone printed on your permit. 

You can park in a: 

  • resident permit holder bay
  • resident shared-use bay (resident permit holder and pay by phone) 
  • permit holder bay
  • permit holder shared-use bay (permit holder and pay by phone)

You cannot park:

  • on any yellow line restrictions, or in bus lanes or cycle lanes 
  • on the pavement, unless there are signs that say parking on the pavement is allowed
  • over the flat section of a dropped kerb unless the homeowner gives permission 
  • in off-street car parks 
  • in private parking areas
  • on council estates
  • in restricted bays including:
    • disabled bay
    • car club bay
    • loading bay
    • doctors bay
    • motorcycle bay

This permit is free of charge.
