The council funds the maintenance of most of Haringey’s highways. Some roads are maintained by Transport for London.
Principal roads
Principal roads are main roads that have the highest amount of traffic from pedestrians or vehicles.
The council funds the maintenance of principal roads. TfL sometimes funds the resurfacing of principal roads.
Haringey’s principal road network includes:
- Green Lanes
- Tottenham High Road (Bruce Grove to borough boundary with Enfield Council)
- West Green Road
- Bounds Green Road
- Ferry Lane
- Fortis Green
- Lordship Lane
- Fortis Green Road
- The Roundway (west)
- Priory Road
- Hornsey High Street
- Tottenham Lane
- Watermead Way
- Westbury Avenue
- Turnpike Lane
- The Broadway (Muswell Hill)
- The Broadway (Crouch End)
- Crouch End Hill
- Crouch Hill
- Queens Avenue
- High Road (Wood Green)
- Park Road
- Church Lane
- Muswell Hill
TfL used to contribute to funding for the maintenance of principal roads. This funding came through a yearly bidding process as part of our Local Implementation Plan.
However, in recent years we’ve not received any funding from TfL for planned maintenance work on principal roads.
Public roads
Public roads make up most of Haringey’s roads. The council funds the maintenance of these roads from its capital and revenue budgets.
Transport for London Network
Some roads in Haringey are part of the Transport for London Network – these are known as ‘red routes’. They're managed and maintained by TfL.
The red routes in Haringey are:
- Archway Road
- Seven Sisters Road
- Great Cambridge Road
- The Roundway (East)
- Bruce Grove
- Tottenham High Road (Bruce Grove to Stamford Hill)
- Broad Lane
- Monument Way
Other roads
There are also private roads in Haringey that are maintained by their owners.
The maintenance of housing or parks roads is funded by the relevant Haringey services.
