How a road is used

Part of: Prioritising planned highways maintenance

How much a road is used and where it goes are both considered when prioritising maintenance work.

We’ll prioritise maintenance work on roads that both:

  • have the highest amount of traffic from pedestrians or vehicles
  • are routes to schools, stations or town centres

This might mean a road that gets lots of traffic could be prioritised over a road that’s in worse condition but gets less traffic.
