We are looking to introduce a new parking management approach for our estates. The new approach will:
- tackle those who park without a valid permit
- guarantee every household 1 permit
- provide dedicated disabled parking bays
We need a new system because of changes in the law meaning estate parking will be governed by the same regulations as street parking. This enables us to more effectively tackle:
- trespassers
- abandoned vehicles
- permit fraud
Cost to residents
To cover the costs of the scheme, car owners will be asked to pay from 14 pence a day to park – the bigger and more polluting your vehicle's engine the more you’ll pay. This is different to the current system where all residents fund parking management even if they do not use a bay.
Blue Badge holders and carers will be able to park for free.
Consultation
We are committed to working closely with residents on co-designing and delivering every stage of the process. The rollout will be happen in stages across Haringey and will let you have your say on improvements like:
- new loading bays
- motorcycle bays
- disabled bays
- cycle parking
- electric vehicle charging points
Our engagement team is already working with our resident voice group on co-designing the consultation which we expect to start in summer 2024. We are aiming to make the new system live by early 2026 and are committed to annual reviews so that we make sure the system works as well as it can for you.
This new scheme received approval by Haringey Cabinet in January 2024. See minutes of the Cabinet meeting for this: Issue - items at meetings - Amendments to the Estate Parking Management Scheme | Haringey Council (external link).
