Council Leader Cllr Peray Ahmet, Deputy Leader Cllr Sarah Williams and Cabinet Member Cllr Ruth Gordon, joined partners delivering the scheme at the Ashley Road Depot site to celebrate the landmark moment, which signifies the project reaching its highest point.
Located on Park View Road, close to Tottenham Hale Station, 100% of the homes will be let to residents on the council’s housing register.
Cllr Sarah Williams, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said:
“We are delighted to reach this important milestone, bringing us another step closer to delivering 272 much-needed council homes as part of our ambitious housebuilding programme.
“It’s been a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand the transformation of a brownfield site into a high quality, beautifully landscaped development where residents will live in beautiful homes, enjoying fabulous views over Down Lane Park.
“Ensuring that our council homes are built sustainably and are cheap to heat is very important to us. The materials used for the buildings will mean these homes will be kind to the planet and kind to tenants’ pockets.
“We are committed to providing safe, secure and spacious council homes for our residents, and are on track to deliver 3,000 by 2031, with 2,000 already started or completed.”
One of the council’s largest schemes in the council’s housebuilding programme, more than a third of the project will be much-needed family sized homes with a development made up of 66 one-bed, 114 two-beds, 67 three-beds, and 25 four-beds. Of these, 28 will be fully accessible for wheelchair-users.
The scheme will provide new entrances into Down Lane Park, with 74 additional trees planted on the site and shrubbery that will improve the landscape and support wildlife.
Responsibly sourced and environmentally friendly materials are being used in the construction of the homes and high insulation and solar panels will keep energy costs low.
